Emma & Tom’s PGCE Podcast was born on a conference visit to Bolton, England on a baking hot June day in 2018. Emma and Tom, both PGCE lecturers from Cardiff Metropolitan University, had already decided to start a podcast to bring new voices and information to their students when they weren’t on campus.

Since that first rather creaky episode, recorded without specialist sound equipment because Tom forgot to pack any, the podcast has grown beyond their expectations, and has featured guests from schools, universities and even government. To Emma and Tom’s surprise, the podcast has caught the attention of a wide audience in the world of education, including internationally.

In season 3, our podcast duo decided that the title ‘PGCE Podcast’ had its benefits but also some limitations. It was the only PGCE-titled podcast in Apple’s podcast directory, but the title was putting off serving teachers who initially thought it was not for them. One rebrand later, the podcast was reborn in January 2021 as Emma & Tom Talk Teaching, with snazzy artwork by Beth Blandford aka blandoodles and music expertly remixed by Cameron Stewart.
